Who am I?

I’m Hinlun. I like to write about many things, but I’ll try to keep this site mostly focused on essays on politics and philosophy. And the occasional story I have brewing in my mind.

What is Cloudthink?

A place to write down my (imperfect) thoughts, hence the name. If there is one thing that I have learned over the years about thinking and writing, it’s that it is an imperfect process in both style and substance. But it is also this cloudy imperfection that makes it so valuable, as it forces me to then rethink the cloudiness, struggle internally a little bit, then end up at another (perhaps more refined) imperfection.

And in a world where many people claim to write authoritatively on a topic, I hope that this is a welcome break for you.

Cloudthink’s posting schedule and content will depend on whether I’m travelling through a brighter or darker spot of the cloud. Don’t worry, I’m a rather optimistic person, so there is a limit to how depressing or esoteric these posts get.

What’s my background?

I’m from Hong Kong, but I’ve been studying in the UK for the past 8 years or so - the first five at Eton and the last three at the LSE. I also work in mainland China sometimes, so I split my time between Hong Kong, London, and Shenzhen.

While this fact does not make me qualified to write about any topic whatsoever, what I do hope to bring to the table are my mix of reflections having been around many interesting people, in a wide variety of contexts, across different cultures.

Why subscribe?

If you find Cloudthink interesting, it may be worth subscribing to get access to the occasional update to your inbox and the ability to post comments. Or if you just want to support my thought-writing process. Regardless of your reasons, I like seeing numbers go up :)

Our thoughts are imperfect. It's good to write them down anyway.
